"Random Acts is a non-profit organization that’s aiming to conquer the world, one random act of kindness at a time. We’re dedicated to funding and inspiring acts of kindness around the world." Find out more here and donate here!
What is Random Acts:
On December 3, 2009, Misha Collins, the angel Castiel on The CW's Supernatural, used Twitter to ask his followers (affectionately known as his "minions") to come up with ideas for a "minion stimulus" project. The goal was to obtain US government stimulus money (funding to aid endeavors to stop an economic recession) for non-profit initiatives.
The pursuit of government funding was soon abandoned in favor of morphing into a privately organized charity, formerly known as MinionStimulus. After visiting the fledgling website, Misha appointed Lisa Walker as the Director of Charitable Affairs and provided her with some initial direction. Together, Misha and Lisa began marshaling the forces of good at their disposal.
Since that auspicious beginning, our organization has gone through several changes, including our name. We've come a long way and now have non-profit status through our parent organization, The Art Department, Inc. In late 2011, Lisa stepped down, and we welcomed Cinde Monsam as our new Director.
With Misha and Cinde's direction and leadership, and the daily attention of an extraordinary administrative team, we have an organization poised to conquer the world, one random act of kindness at a time.
What can you do to help:
You can donate, how easy! Or, you can perform a random act of kindness, which is easier! Smile at everyone you see, put money in a vending machine to pay for someones snack, clean trash off the ground, or even simply talk to the person next to you on the bus, everything helps!
Supporter contributions help to fund all Random Acts activities. Donations help to fund Random Acts of Kindness performed by the staff and by outside volunteers.
Certain funds are also earmarked for large campaigns such as Hope 2 Haiti. These funds have helped to provide relief to various organizations in Haiti following the 2010 Earthquake including the construction of the Jacmel Children’s Center and aid to the Art Creation Foundation for Children, two organizations that provide aid and education to the children of Jacmel, Haiti.
This is my favorite charity because, unlike other charities, I have proof in front of me that my money has been given to a good cause. They have given shoes to kids, built schools, given bikes to homeless people, and so much more, and I cant help but feel good because the money I have donated hasn't been wasted. I have gotten many ideas from this website that have helped me think of my own random acts of kindness that I try to perform every day. Every time I go through a toll booth, i pay for the next couple of cars, or when I see a vending machine, I put a dollar in for the next person, and I always try to smile at everyone I see. Hopefully, this will inspire you to perform a random act, and maybe your random act will inspire someone else's, and so on and so forth.
