Where did you go? Did you like it? Why or why not?:
-For career day this year, I shadowed a chiropractor in Encinitas. I enjoyed following him around for a day because I genuinely got to see what a work day is like for someone in the chiropractor job field.
Reflection of the day:
-The day consisted of me arriving at about 9:00 am. I watched Dana, the person I shadowed, get ready for the work day and confirm his clients for the day. This day, he had about 8, making his work day around 8 hours long. I sat in with him while he worked on a client, and observed him for the rest of the day. Lunch was around noon, and I saw the process of recording and contacting new and returning clientele.
What was interesting ? What did you learn?:
-I found the chiropractic process very interesting because it is based around healing with the hands verses healing though traditional medicine. Dana told me how simply adjusting a persons body can realign the whole skeletal system.
Is this a career you see yourself pursuing? Why or why not?:
-While I find this career path incredibly interesting, it would not be a career I would like to pursue. I am interested in more of a traditional medical path.
What education is needed?:
In order to become a licensed chiropractor, one needs to undergo four years of pre-medical undergraduate college education. They must take courses in biology, inorganic and organic chemistry, physics, and psychology.
What is your dream internship for your Junior year?:
-My dream internship would be to shadow a general medicine doctor or a doctor specializing in
anesthesiology.
