Generally, generally, I read the news over watching it. I don’t have a tv where I could watch it, and if its important enough to affect me or is affecting the area I’m in, I will hear about second hand or pick it up in the paper. I don’t think the things people are hearing in the news are always the most important, normally they are sensationalized to be interesting or tragic to draw people in. I’m sure people would rather hear about the homophobic guy on Duck Dynasty being suspended rather that Thessalonika Arzu-Embry, a 14 year old African-American girl who just graduated college. Most people would rather hear about a school being shot up rather than children fighting for the right to attend school. Out of all the news stories we watched, I thought the most significant story was the one about the continuous growth of the drug heroin. Over 22 people died of heroin overdose in the past couple weeks in Chicago, and there is nearly double the amount of heroin overdoses all over the county. I thought the most interesting story was the volcano erupting. Personally, I love nature and different forms of non man-made destruction. I thought it was interesting how the volcano erupted the day after the once evacuated citizens were let back into the area.
