Right now in school, my class is reading Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. This is one of my favorite works of literature because it has relatable characters that the reader can feel connected to. The book talks about prejudices between two families that leads to a mutual hatred. This forces the young lovers Romeo of the Montagues and Juliet of the Capulits to take their own lives. I also like how the play contains a lot of symbolism, the first half of Romeo and Juliet has many jokes, a masked ball, and love poetry, it is more like a Shakespearean comedy, not a tragedy. But, after Tybalt kills Mercutio near its midpoint, everything becomes darker. I love this play and at its end, it really leaves you with a sense of melancholy completion.
