Quote 1,
I agree with this quote because I believe in individual lifestyle choice and equality. Couples of any manner should have the same privileges that other couples do. This quote reminds me of the segregation of black and white people. Black people weren't allowed to do things that white people were, and gay couples aren’t allowed to do things straight couples can, the only difference between the two is one happen in the past, when we weren’t as knowledgeable as we are now, and the other is happening everyday. Some people may say marriage is just a piece of paper, and it shouldn’t matter if anyone has it, but, there are actually legal advantages to marriage. In times of crisis, spouses have hospital visitation rights and can make medical decisions in event of illness or disability of their spouse. Also, employers offer spouses sick leave, bereavement leave, access to health insurance and pension, the law provides certain automatic rights to a person's spouse regardless of whether or not a will exists. Married couples are also are entitled to financial benefits relating to their spouses, such as disability, pension and social security benefits. Finally, all people should be treated as equal, no matter wealth, race, or sexual orientation, just because it is our duty as humans not to feel above another.
