1. What does this space look like? The more descriptive the better!
My ideal workout space is somewhere without distraction so that I can keep on task and motivated. This ideal space would have to be somewhere with a positive environment, it can’t be too busy, and I would prefer it be a cool temperature. This place would preferably have a variety of different exercise machines, because when I am trying to get a full work out and I only have access to say a treadmill, I know I won’t be meeting my full potential. I would also like this place to have a pool. Considering I’m so tall, doing a lot of running type exercise is damaging on my knees, so, doing aquatic exercise and swimming laps in a pool is beneficial to me.
2. Why did you choose this space?
A space that will provide an area to work out without distraction is important to me because say I am trying to use a home gym, I know after a certain amount of time I would find something to distract me. I find it better that I use a facility that is simple and clear so that I can reach my maximum workout potential and know that I won’t have anything to get in my way. I would like this ideal space to dispose a positive environment because I always work best when I know I won’t be judged for doing something wrong, rather helped and showed how to correct what I am doing. I want to be somewhere that isn’t too busy, because where I am somewhere with a lot of people, I often feel crowded or rushed, which inevitably leads to me wanting to leave early or quit what I am doing. I would also want a place that has moderate temperatures because if I overheat while working out, I won’t be able to go for as long and as hard as I want to. I would want a place with a variety of exercise machines because having options of what to do often prevents seeing working out as a repetitive task, but rather an activity that I know will challenge me to work hard. I don’t want to overwork myself, so, if I am in an environment where I can work hard and feel motivated to do so, I know I will succeed.
3. Is there a place near you that is your ideal workout environment? If not, how can you create one?
There is a place near me that provides an ideal workout environment, there is a gym by my house that later this week I am going to attend three times a week. I am excited to start going to this gym and get a personal trainer because so far, the only kind of exercise I have had access to is going running/jogging around my town. Although I enjoy these jogs, it is important to get a variety of exercise for a complete workout. The gym is not too busy and provide a cool, safe environment to work out. It also has a lap pool and an aerobics pool. This is a good environment for me because I know I will succeed if the environment I am in allows me, and motivates me to work hard and push myself as far as I can go. I'm happy that I have ISPE to help push me and provide further meaning to the work that I am doing.
