Around the time of the 19th century, the United States Corps’ great work created one of the most successful bureaucracies, but before there, money wasting, lying, and greediness riddled the system. “We estimate that we will have to provide some 320 million acre-feet of reservoir storage at a cost of about $15 billion; about thirteen thousand miles of new or improved inland waterways; about sixty new or improved commercial harbors; thirty million kilowatts of hydroelectric power-generating capacity; some eleven thousand miles of levees, floodwalls, and channel improvements; and recreational facilities for perhaps 300 million visitors at our reservoirs.” They wanted to enter an era of unprecedented cooperation in planning water resources development to meet future needs, and after 19 years and 15 billion dollars, there were no where close to fulfilling their dream. They wanted to construct 320 million acre-feet of reservoir storage, but they had hardly the money to to build 10 million. The Corps and the Bureau wasted much money on frivolous spending that didn't do much to solve the nation's water situation. They did it to satisfy their own greed for power. I think it took a lot of working the system to get to the top, and while some are able to get there, it can cause serious damage on the people.
