How I made my design:
Step 1: I acquired my desired materials, a piece of paper, a pen, a ruler, and a compass.
Step 2: I took into account the shapes that were required and incorporated them into an interesting design.
Step 3: I revised my design and created a second draft.
Step 4: I went onto the program Geogebra and created my virtual design
Reflection:
One high I had during this project was being able to create several drafts. I like having more than one draft to a project because it allows me to see how my thoughts can change over the course of a project. At first, I liked my original draft and thought it was the best it could be. But, after making a second and third draft, I saw not only a new aspect of geometric shapes, but also what I thought to be brilliant was actually not very good. A low was trying to figure out Geogebra, even though I was given instruction on how to use it, I never seemed to accomplish the desired task. I tried what was once shown to me, yet when I did it, it would not work. Eventually, I figured out how to use it off of internet tutorials and asking my peers.
I used several Habits of a Mathematician during this project. The main one I used was looking at small parts instead of the big picture. I examined how each shape would look individually, then how it would look as a whole, which further helped me understand geometric shapes. I also used staying organized. If I didn't keep all my drafts, I wouldn't be able to complete this bench mark.
From this project I learned the most simple tools can be used to make beautiful work. I used only a ruler and compass and I was able to create a beautiful and intricate design, which was actually fairly simple. But, for this to work, everything must be exactly precise, or else the work will be crooked, off place, or wont match up. A lack of attention to detail and make a beautiful project look horrible.
